Organizers of the 2nd Annual Daniel Barden Highland Mudfest made a $25,000 donation, August 21, to the Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) General and Community Funds. The donation will be split equally between these funds.

The second Newtown Yoga Festival takes place Saturday, August 23, at the NYA Sports & Fitness Center, 4 Primrose Street, at Fairfield Hills. The daylong event begins with registration at 8:30 am, followed by Gayatri Mantra and Kirta from 9 to 9:30 am. Lydia Smith and Sound Center Arts of Newtown will offer a drum circle from 9:30 to 10 am, followed by the “Yoga Buffet” from 10 am to noon.

Newtown-based Sandy Hook Promise, an organization formed shortly after the 12/14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School to support those affected and support solutions to acts of violence, issued a statement July 2, following the group’s failed attempt to have families directly affected by 12/14 meet with Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey.

KILLINGLY — The public is invited to join students of EastConn’s Quinebaug Middle College (QMC) magnet high school on Saturday, June 14, when they host a 5K run and quarter-mile Kids Fun Run.
The event, called “Run to Remember: Sandy Hook Hi 5K,” will benefit Sandy Hook Promise. It will be presented at Owen Bell Park, 580 Hartford Pike in the Dayville section of Killingly.

My back arched and my tail stood up straight last week when I heard about two acts of vandalism at Sandy Ground playgrounds, built in the tri-state area to honor each woman and child killed on 12/14. In another show of love winning over evil, however, both senseless acts have been turned on their head. Nelba Marquez-Greene has said that she would like to have a message board installed at the playground in Hartford honoring her daughter, Ana Marquez-Greene.
