The public is invited to enjoy a sampling of Sandy Hook businesses on Saturday, October 8, during Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity's (SHOP) 6th Annual Passport to Sandy Hook. The day offers children's activities, prizes, arts and crafts, live music, dance performances, games, food and refreshments, discounts and samples, and open houses to local businesses.sandyhookvillage.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/experiencesandyhook.

Events run from 11 am to 4 pm in Sandy Hook Center: the area near the intersection of Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue, Riverside Road and Glen Road.

The family-friendly event is free and will be held rain or shine.

Passport Day has 35 participants this year - some new, and many returning - who have contributed to this year's three prize packages with a combined value of more than $3,500. Visitors must obtain stamps on their passports from all participating venues. Winners will be selected at 4:15 pm at the bandstand at 102 Church Hill Road. Participants need not be present to win.

According to Event Coordinator Maribeth Hemingway, Title Sponsor Newtown Savings Bank has donated the use of its corporate box at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport for the Ringling Bros Circus on Sunday, October 23, for the show starting at 5 pm.

This contribution will be part of the first and second prize package, she said, "combined with gift certificates from local restaurants and businesses to create a complete night out for a family or group of friends."

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue will again host "Stuff-the-Truck," and would like to ask participants to bring a nonperishable food item, to donated to FAITH Food Pantry.

The event is sponsored by 99.1-WPLR, Newtown Savings Bank, LRM Landscape Contractors, and Andy Sachs and The Around the Town Team of Coldwell Banker. SHOP comprises business owners and residential members from the Sandy Hook community.
