Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident that occurred on westbound Berkshire Road, near Great Ring Road, about 9 am on November 4.

In slowing traffic on the roadway, motorist Cole Desrochers, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, struck the rear end of a 2006 Honda Civic driven by Devante Parks, 22, of Shelton, pushing the Honda into the rear end of a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by Soumia Rossetti, 44, of Shelton, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Desrochers a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hawleyville Crash

Police responded to Hawleyville Road, about 200 feet south of its intersection with Farrell Road, to investigate a one-vehicle accident about 2:17 pm on November 4.

Police said that while he was driving southward on Hawleyville Road, another southbound vehicle passed motorist Jonathan Roth, 29, of Brookfield, causing Roth to steer to the right to avoid a collision, but Roth inadvertently struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Roth for making a restricted turn.

Theft From Vehicle

Police report that sometime between 7 pm on Saturday, November 5, and 12:30 am on Sunday, November 6, an unknown person broke into an unspecified vehicle, which was parked in a commercial parking lot behind 100 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center. Personal items were stolen from that vehicle, according to police. Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Into The Wall

Police report that at about 2:46 am on November 6, motorist Deven Diaz, 24, of Oxford, who was driving a vehicle eastward on Berkshire Road, near Great Quarter Road, crossed the road's center line, struck a deer, and then drove off the left road shoulder and struck a stone wall.

Diaz was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for failure to drive to the right and for making a restricted turn.

SUV vs Minivan

On westbound Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet east of the Currituck Road overpass, at about 8:45 am on November 7, motorist Harvey Dutil, 76, of Farmington, who was driving a 2016 Honda Odyssey minivan, slowed to a stop for heavy traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Alexander Rio, 39, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Rio for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Interfering With Police

Police report they were investigating a complaint concerning an attempted burglary in the Hundred Acres Road area at about 1 pm on November 7, when they spotted a vehicle traveling at high speed on Mt Nebo Road, after which they spotted that vehicle stopped in a driveway on Ox Hill Road.

Police said they approached that vehicle to investigate, and the man who was driving it initially refused to identify himself, after which he provided various identities and dates of birth to police.

Police said they transported the man to the police station where they identified him as Jacques Carter, 21, of Danbury. Police said they charged Carter with interfering with police, after which they released him on $5,000 bail for a November 18 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Newtown police added that they then turned over Carter to Danbury police, who held a warrant for his arrest in connection with a home invasion/burglary incident.

BMW vs Boulder

Motorist John Pierce, 17, of Newtown was driving a 1986 BMW 535 sedan carrying three teenage passengers westward on Georges Hill Road, near Pond Brook Road, at about 10:25 am on November 8, when the auto struck some curbing along the right road shoulder, hit a boulder, then went back across the roadway and went off the left road shoulder, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Pierce infraction for making a restricted turn and for violating certain passenger restrictions in effect on 17-year-old motorists.

Mazda vs Mazda

Police report a two-car accident at the northern intersection of Gelding Hill Road and Bennetts Bridge Road about 2:41 pm on November 8.

The collision involved motorist Parker Johnson, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2013 Mazda 3 auto, and motorist Stanley Szarek, 71, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Mazda Miata sports car, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Johnson for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Honda vs Honda

At about 4:13 pm on November 8, motorist Valerie Toth-O'Sullivan, 46, of Newtown, who was driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan northward on Main Street, was waiting to make a left turn into the driveway at Edmond Town Hall, when northbound motorist Edwin Guzman-Cordova, 43, of New Milford, who was driving a 2003 Honda CR-V SUV, struck the rear end of the minivan, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Guzman-Cordova an infraction for following too closely. Police report they gave Toth-O'Sullivan an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

DUI Incident

At about 10:20 pm on November 8, police said they were dispatched to the area near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way on a report of an erratically driven vehicle. Police said they found the vehicle in question on Wasserman Way, where they stopped it to investigate.

Police said they charged motorist Robert Moker, 54, of Danbury with driving under the influence. Police report they held Moker on bail for a November 9 court appearance. Moker pleaded not guilty to the charge in court and was released on $5,000 bail for a November 16 court appearance.

Rollover Crash

Motorist Stephen Finucane, 28, of Hartford was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV on Interstate 84's combined Exit 11 off-ramp at about 9:46 am on November 9, when the Jeep went out of control on a curve, spun off the ramp onto the right road shoulder, and then flipped onto its roof and slid into a light post, state police report. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Finucane to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said.

DUI/Marijuana

Police report that at about 7 pm on November 10, they checked on a Dodge Intrepid sedan that was parked in the commuter parking lot on Wasserman Way, near Exit 11 of Interstate 84.

Police said they charged motorist Dakota Ashby, 18, of Newtown, with driving under the influence and with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Police said they released Ashby on $100 bail for a November 29 court appearance.

Chevrolet vs Dodge

Motorist Margaret Keayes, 46, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 Chevrolet K-1500 vehicle, at about 8:46 am on November 11, on westbound Maltbie Road, stopped at a stop sign at Maltbie Road's intersection with Castle Meadow Road, and then started backing up in seeking to enter a parking area, but the Chevrolet backed into a 2006 Dodge Caravan minivan that was driven by Michael Brush, 27, of Waterbury, police report. The Dodge had been traveling behind the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Keayes for unsafe backing.

DUI Arrest, Additional Charge

Police said that at about 11:59 pm on November 11, they responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident having occurred on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Obtuse Road. After investigating at the scene, police charged motorist Anthony Raiani, 49, of Newtown with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Following arrest processing, police released Raiani on $200 bail for a November 29 court appearance.

Botsford Incident

At about 11 pm on November 12, police received a report concerning an erratically driven vehicle traveling northward on South Main Street in Botsford, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they found the vehicle in question and then stopped it for a motor vehicle violation. After investigating, police charged motorist Zachary Dillon, 19, of Hamden, with operation of a motor vehicle by a minor with an elevated blood alcohol level and also with making a restricted turn. Police released Dillon on $150 bail for a November 29 court appearance.

Evading Responsibility

State police report that a Sandy Hook man was driving a 2016 Honda Fit SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, at about 4:23 pm on November 12, when the driver of a white vehicle, which may have been a SUV, struck the Honda and then drove away, traveling eastward on the highway. The Honda driver was not injured. State police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Trooper Leca at Troop A in Southbury at 203 267-2200.

Chrysler vs Tree

At about 8:06 pm on November 13, motorist Isobel Russo, 17, of Newtown was driving a 2017 Chrysler 200 auto westward on Orchard Hill Road, near Platts Hill Road, when the vehicle then drifted onto the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

There were no injuries. Russo received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane, according to police.

DUI Arrest

Police report they received a complaint about 4:43 pm on November 15, informing them that an unoccupied vehicle was stopped in the middle of Riverside Road, near its intersection with Philo Curtis Road, so they went to the area to check on the matter.

Police said that on investigating, they found that the driver of that vehicle, Daniel Wojtowicz, 63, of Bethel was walking down the road away from the vehicle. Police report they charged Wojtowicz with driving under the influence. Police said they held him on bail for an appearance on November 16 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Sandy Hook Mishap

At about 4 pm on November 15, motorist Kristen Velsmid, 39, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2014 Toyota Sienna minivan westward on Church Hill Road, attempted to park on the street in front of 111 Church Hill Road, but inadvertently struck an unoccupied 2014 Subaru Impreza that was parked there.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Velsmid a written warning for making a restricted turn.
