Berkshire DUI

Police report that at about 11 pm on January 31, they spotted motorist Milton Jara-Montesdeoca, 35, of Danbury driving a vehicle erratically westward on Berkshire Road, after which they stopped him to investigate near Newtown High School.

Police said they charged Jara-Montesdeoca with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following processing, police released Jara-Montesdeoca on $500 bail for a February 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Treadwell Park Vandalism

Police said they are investigating an incident of vandalism that caused an estimated $2,000 worth of damage sometime overnight on January 31-February 1 at Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road.

Someone intentionally damaged a set of electrical controls that is used for the night lighting at an athletic field at the park, police said.

Police said they are reviewing surveillance video of the incident.

Surrender On Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Anthony Assad, 25, of 12 Little Brook Lane turned himself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of January 28 and was then charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said that Assad's initial arrest last August 31, which led to the issuance of the warrant, involved multiple motor vehicle violations. After posting $1,000 bail, police released Assad for a February 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Speeding Violation

Police report that at about 7 am on January 28, they were using radar speed detection equipment near 82 Hanover Road when they spotted motorist Darren Thompson, 37, of Bridgewater driving a vehicle 40 miles per hour in a 25-mph speed zone, so they stopped him to investigate. Police said they charged Thompson with traveling unreasonably fast.

Currituck Road

Motorist Michael Andros, 22, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Buick Century sedan northward on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Butterfield Road, about 6:40 am on January 31, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder and then struck a fence-topped stone wall, police report.

Andros was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for making a restricted turn.

Interstate Crash

State police report that motorist Brian Stasiak, 38, of Danbury was driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck on westbound Interstate 84 at about 9:36 pm on January 30, when the vehicle went off the left road shoulder and then struck some metallic flex-beam guardrailing. There were no injuries.

After investigating, state police issued Stasiak a misdemeanor summons on charges of failure to have automotive insurance, failure to carry an automotive insurance/vehicle registration identification card, driving with unsafe tires, and failure to drive in the proper lane. Stasiak is scheduled to appear in court on February 18.

I-84 Collision

About 8:22 am on January 29. motorist Johnathan Raphael Santayana, 19, of 20 Pole Bridge Road was driving a 1995 Toyota Avalon sedan on westbound Interstate 84's Exit 10 on-ramp, when while negotiating a turn to the left, the auto started spinning and then struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said that Santayana was traveling too fast.

Highway Rear-Ender

Motorist Yevgeniy Sklyar, 43, of Watertown, who was driving a 2009 BMW 3-series auto westward on Interstate 84, about a mile west of Exit 10, at about 7:54 am on January 28, slowed and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the BMW was struck from behind by motorist Milton Baxter, 37, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry sedan, state police report.

There were no injuries. State police issued Baxter an infraction for following too closely and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Rollover MVA

At about 9:18 am on January 23, motorist Zachary Nowak, 17, of Oxford was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer SUV northward on Pine Tree Hill Road, near Meadow Brook Road, when the SUV ran off the right road shoulder, and then flipped over, landing on its driver's side amid slippery conditions, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the accident and checked Nowak, finding him to be uninjured, after which he was turned over to his parents, police said. Botsford firefighters also went to the incident. Police report they issued Nowak an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

DUI Arrest

Police said they received a report about 1:40 am on February 3 that a motor vehicle accident had occurred in the Berkshire Road area, so they went there to investigate.

Police said they found a vehicle off Berkshire Road, near Zoar Road, after which they investigated and charged motorist Nadine Predzimirski, 41, of Oxford with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

Police said they held Predzimirski on $500 bail for a court appearance that day.

Residential Vandalism

Police report they are investigating two cases of residential vandalism that occurred early on the morning of January 31.

At about 1 am, a curbside mailbox was damaged when a large firework exploded at 5 Grays Plan Road in Sandy Hook. At about 3 am, another curbside mailbox was damaged by the explosion of a large firework at 32 Little Brook Lane.

An unidentified vehicle was spotted leaving the Little Brook Lane are after the incident there, police said. Police ask anyone with information on the property damage to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Five Charges

Police report they made a motor vehicle stop on South Main Street, near Laurel Lane, about 9:24 pm on February 2, after which they investigated and charged motorist Dashawn Tyrell Thomas, 23, of Bridgeport with improper use of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving without a license.

Additionally, police learned there was an outstanding court warrant against Thomas and then charged him with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said they held Thompson on $10,500 bail for a February 3 court appearance.

Slippery Road

Motorist James Andreyka, 67, of Monroe, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup truck northward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Johnnie Cake Lane, about 7:19 am on January 28, skidded on some black ice, after which the truck went off the left road shoulder, struck some curbing and then hit a rocky embankment, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Andreyka for making a restricted turn.

Newtown Police Department will be taking a no-excuses approach to seatbelt law enforcement, writing citations day and night, during the current Click It Or Ticket seatbelt use campaign.
