Pastel Artist To Be Featured At SCAN Meeting, Wednesday Evening

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will feature Joel Spector, painting in pastel, at the its next meeting, Wednesday, July 13, at 7:30 pm. This demonstration will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.

Mr Spector is known for his images of elegance. Born in Havana, Cuba, he came to the United States at the age of 12. He graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology and attended the Art Students League. He received his MFA at WCSU in 2005.

Mr Spector started out in the field of fashion illustration, and then moved on to general illustration and has been working on well-known accounts throughout the years. His work has been published in books, children's books, magazines, newspapers, advertising, and annual reports.

Honors include: an award from the 2011 International Portrait Competition in Atlanta; award winner in the Artist's Magazine 2011 Competition; and Gold Medal awards from Pastel Society of America, Society of Illustrators, Portrait Society of America, and Oil Painters of America.

Presently he is working on murals for Norwegian Cruise Lines.

In addition to illustration, Mr Spector is sought out to paint commissioned portraits. His portrait work has been included in the National Arts Club, New York; the Players Club, New York; and in many prominent collections.
