Occupation: Mainly, I’m a professional mother right now. When I lived in England, for the last year there I had a marketing consultant company, which I have recently re-established over here. It’s called Spot On Solutions, LLC. I have a broad marketing background, so I go in and troubleshoot for companies and come up with solutions for them.

Family: My husband, Ian, is British and works for IBM. We have two children. Jake is 7 years old, and in the second grade at Sandy Hook School, and Dylan is 6, and in kindergarten there.

Pets: We have some fish. Sadly, our 16-year-old cat died just before we moved here from England last year. The kids keep bugging me for a dog, but I think we need to wait until they are a bit older.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’m originally from Rhode Island, and lived in England for the past 18 years. We moved here in January of 2011. We arrived in a little two-wheel drive rental car, with no furniture here yet — and then 27 inches of snow fell that night. We practically had to use a dustpan to dig our way out.

What do you like to do in your free time? Our entire family is at Extreme Fitness Martial Arts in Plaza South nearly every day. They have great fitness programs. We try to get out and sample every restaurant in Newtown, too, and we like to go to music concerts, mainly rock concerts. I am involved in two book clubs. One is a neighborhood book club, and I belong to one with Newcomers Club. I think I joined Newcomers within a month of moving here. It’s a great social club, and I’m in charge of special programs now.

Do you have a favorite book? I read a lot of different stuff, but I keep coming back to three: Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead, John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.

Do you have a favorite rock band? We’re still getting to know American bands. We have tickets to see Kasabian coming up, and saw Arctic Monkeys in New York City this fall. Both are British bands. We saw Journey recently, and that was great fun.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We’ve been around most of Europe now. I have family in Australia and would like to go back there someday. But our best family vacation was in Cypress. That was magical. Now we’re looking forward to exploring America, in all honesty.

What is the best thing about Newtown? When we started looking for a house here, we visited Westchester County and all around. This was the place, when we were driving around, where we felt happy and comfortable. The schools here have been amazing, and the people in my neighborhood are incredible. Newtown is a wonderful place to live and we’re looking forward to being here a long, long time.

Who has been the greatest influence on your life? Without a doubt, my mother. She is a strong and wise woman. She has always been there for me, no matter what. She is definitely my hero.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I have this posted all over: “Do or Do Not. There is no Try.” Yoda said it in Star Wars. It is absolutely the way I live my life, and encourage my kids to live by.

What makes you happiest? I’m a pretty positive person all the time. Being with my children is much more rewarding than I thought it would be, coming from a big career background. Spending time with my children gives me a lot of joy.
