    A memorial service for Captain John M. Wilkinson, 85, who died June 1 at his home in Newtown, will take place at 11 am, Saturday, September 20, at the Chapel at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London. A luncheon will held after the service, at noon, at the Officers Club at the Academy.

    Ernest “Ernie” Siladi, 90, a resident of Maplewood at Newtown, died peacefully, September 3, 2014. He was born June 16, 1924, in Stamford, and was the son of Helen Rimany Siladi and Joseph Walter Siladi Prior to moving to Newtown, he lived in Fishkill, N.Y., and Stamford.

    W. Nelson “Skip” Roberts, 91, of Newtown died peacefully Wednesday, September 3, in the presence of his family, following a brief illness. He grew up with his younger sister, Gertrude, in rural New Monmouth, N.J., where he was born August 14, 1923, and regularly attended services at the New Monmouth Baptist Church with his parents, Agnes and Wilbur Roberts.

    Celeste “Sally” R. Verzaro, 76, of Monroe, beloved wife of the late Louis Verzaro, died peacefully August 30 at St Vincent’s Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport, July 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John Peter and Anna Helen Coolis Minalga.

    Roger Green, 74, of St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, a longtime former resident of Newtown, died suddenly August 2. He was the son of the late Ben Green and the late Margaret (McGrath) Esposito.

  • Helen B. Herbold

    Helen B. Herbold, 94, previously of Newtown, a registered nurse, synchronized swimmer, and certified yoga instructor, died September 1 at the Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Ghent, N.Y. Born Helen Maryann Barry on March 31, 1920, in Chicago, she was one of nine children of Anna Cullen Barry and Michael J. Barry. She was the last surviving sibling.
