NVCC Adjunct Lecturer To Discuss Native Trees & Shrubs

The Town & Country Garden Club will host a program, "Native Trees and Shrubs With A Twist: Unexpected Excitement from our Native Flora," Wednesday, February 10, at 7 pm.

The program will be led by Adam Wheeler, propagation and plant development manager at Broken Arrow Nursery in Hamden. It will take place at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road.

Attendance is free and open to the public.

Mr Wheeler's program will explore the world of native trees and shrubs, with an emphasis on underutilized and unique garden worthy forms. Ornamental qualities and intriguing cultural details will be presented in a lively talk, illustrated through photos and high quality imagery.

Mr Wheeler is a recent recipient of the Young Nursery Professional Award from New England Nursery Association. He loves to share his passion for plants through photography and educational outreach. He speaks regularly on a variety of subjects and is an adjunct lecturer at Naugatuck Valley Community College and Berkshire Botanical Garden.

He holds degrees in Urban Forestry and Landscape Horticulture from the University of Vermont. At Broken Arrow Nursery, he manages plant propagation, container production, mail order, and the acquisition and development of new plants.

Broken Arrow Nursery is a destination nursery that acquires, develops, and grows rare and garden-worthy plants. The nursery works to produce affordable, high-quality plants in an ethically responsible manner. Broken Arrow is known for its educational programs to enhance people's understanding and foster greater appreciation for plants and the field of horticulture.

The nursery also maintains display gardens for demonstration, research, propagation and education.
