Norma H. Andrews, 94, of Nunnawauk Meadows in Newtown died on January 1 after a brief illness. She was born on February 14, 1922, on Main Street in Washingtonville, N.Y., to Clara (Felter) Hookey and Daniel Thompson Hookey.

During her early years in Washingtonville, she was the star on top of the Christmas Tree next to Moffat Library at the annual tree lighting ceremony and sang for programs in the library. Gifted with a beautiful singing voice, she sang solos in school, at Washingtonville Presbyterian Church, and at Blooming Grove United Church of Christ.

After high school graduation, she graduated from the Spenserian Secretarial School. She became a supervisor at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, N.Y., and was an employee at WGNY in Newburgh until her marriage to Theron Andrews in 1951.

She and Theron led a full life in Connecticut. Mrs Andrews was active in the Woodmont United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a soloist. For a while, she worked for the Mayflower Trucking Company in Milford as an accountant.

Mrs Andrews had a heart of gold, helping family and friends whenever she could. Her abilities and energy were recognized and appreciated. She was very active in the Masonic Orders of the Eastern Star, where she served as grand matron of Stratford Court; Connecticut State Grand Matron, and grand soloist for both the local chapter and state; and the Amaranth, where she served as grand matron and grand soloist.

From her very early years until her last days, Mrs Andrews loved animals; she had many cats and three purebred poodles. Through her love, energy, and ability, she earned her dogs blue ribbons and their international papers for obedience.

Late in life, she followed a lifelong nursing dream and graduated from Milford Hospital first in her class as a nurse's aide. Though that career was short lived, it was the one that fulfilled her the most.

Her eight nieces and nephews that she loved "like her own," her grandnieces and nephews, as well as her great-grandnieces and nephews survive her. Her husband of 41 years, Theron; her son, Mark David; her special dog; her five siblings, Charles Hookey, Alice Hookey (Buchino) Moffat, A. Muriel Hookey, Clara Hookey (Gerow) Johnson, and Donald Hookey; as well as a niece and nephew, predeceased her.

Mrs Andrews will be remembered by her loved ones for her singing, quick wit, loving heart, and many intricate knitted, crocheted, and tatted gifts.
