BETHEL — The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc., would like to invite prospective members to its next meeting on Thursday, April 18, at 11:30 am, at Capellaro’s Grove.
The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc., a non-partisan, non-sectarian organization was formed on March 25, 1968. The club promotes friendship among members, provides opportunities for organized interests and participation in social, cultural, philanthropic, intellectual and civic affairs in the Newtown community and beyond.
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month, September through May, at area restaurants. A social hour, lunch, business meeting and program are held.
The April meeting will feature a talk by Sydney Eddison, who will speak on easy ways to maintain your garden. Mrs Eddison is a longtime Newtown resident, a nationally known gardening and horticulture expert and lecturer. She is the author of seven books, numerous articles and she and her gardens have been featured on the TV programs of Martha Stewart and Victory Gardens.
Her most recent book, Gardening for a Lifetime: How to Garden Wiser as You Grow Older, was published in 2010.
Following her talk, she will take questions from the audience.
Besides all the volunteer options there are for members of the Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc., there are numerous opportunities to be involved in enjoyable and exciting social activities. Members enjoy art trips and projects, a book club, a conservation group that has been planting daffodils all around Newtown, knitting, sewing, and walking groups (to name a few,) all while supporting our community.
