Stray Kats Theatre Company will present Seven, a groundbreaking work of documentary theater that captures the remarkable lives of a diverse and courageous group of women leaders around the world. A collaboration by seven award-winning female playwrights, Seven is based on personal interviews with women in the Vital Voices Global Leadership Network who have triumphed over enormous obstacles to bring about major changes in their home countries of Russia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Afghanistan, Guatemala and Cambodia.
“Seven is a commanding reminder of the transformative power of women’s leadership in our world,” says Alyse Nelson, president of the Vital Voices Global Partnership. “The lives of these women provide a portal through which audiences will be able to experience a diversity of cultures while bearing witness to the varied ways in which seven individual women have overcome seemingly insurmountable hurdles to justice, freedom and equality.”
The play is a collaboration of works by Paula Cizmar, Catherine Filloux, Gail Kriegel, Carol K. Mack, Ruth Margraff, Anna Deavere Smith and Susan Yankowitz.
The cast will include professional actresses appearing courtesy of Actors Equity Association and prominent members of the community including Jenny Polozov, managing director of Regina’s Art Center; Lisa Scails, executive director of The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut; actress Caroline Winterson; and Kate Katcher, actress and Artistic Director of Stray Kats.
First Selectman Pat Llodra is scheduled to introduce the piece.
The play will be followed by a discussion with members of the cast and Vital Voices, as well as refreshments
