Nighthawk Tennis Teams Compete

Newtown High School's girls' tennis team, coming off a 6-1 road loss to Joel Barlow of Redding on April 13, posted a 5-2 win at Bunnell of Stratford on April 18, then fell 7-0 to Weston on April 20.

In the win over Bunnell, No. 2 singles player Amanda Berry, No. 3 singles player Anna Biondi, and the top two doubles teams of Emily McCoy/Julia Anderson and Tessa Leon-Gambetta and Sophie Wolfman all came out on top.

The boys' squad dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting Barlow on April 13, closing the gap after a 6-1 defeat to Barlow in the season-opener, defeated host Brookfield 5-2 on April 14, and blanked visiting Bunnell 7-0 on April 18, then fell 5-2 to Weston two days later.

Against Barlow, top singles player Joey Conrod and No. 2 singles player Matt Carino both posted wins, and the No. 2 doubles tandem of Contstantine Vogiatzis and Jordan Klein came out on top.

Against Brookfield, Newtown winners were Conrod, Carino, No. 4 player Jackson Dooley, the top doubles tandem of Vogiatzis/Klein, and the No. 2 doubles duo of Sean Bollman/Matt Frazzetta.

In the Bunnell match, Conrod, Carino, and No. 3 player Peter Winans all came out on top, and the doubles teams of James Frazzetta and Justin Oelberg and Vogiatzis and Klein won. Newtown earned forfeit victories at fourth singles and third doubles.
