Nighthawk Swimmers Race In Class LL State Meet

Newtown High School's girls' swimming and diving team competed in the Class LL State Championships in mid-November. Swimming events were held at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, on November 14.

The Nighthawks, with 185.5 points, placed 12th among 20 teams; Greenwich, with 745, placed first.

Newtown's 200 yard medley relay team of Shayna Millard, Maddie Carter, Olivia Renkert, and Payton Bradley was tenth in a time of 1:56.16.

In the 200 yard individual medley race, Renkert was 19th in 2:17.54.

Caroline Mahoney placed 17th in the 50 free with a time of 25.89, and Bradley was 22nd in 26.22.

Carter took 13th in the 100 butterfly, making her final touch in 1:01.44.

In the 100 free, Millard and Mahoney placed 20th and 21st with times of 56.30 and 56.72.

The 200 free relay of Mahoney, Norah Kolb, Carter, and Bradley was 13th in 1:45.28.

Millard placed 21st in the 100 backstroke race, finishing in 1:03.43.

Carter was 14th in the 100 breaststroke event, completing the race in 1:10.66.

Newtown's 400 free relay of Mahoney, Kolb, Renkert, and Millard was 11th in 3:52.93.

The Class LL diving championships took place in Middletown on November 7. Madeline Muldoon, of Greenwich, came in first with a score of 476.85. Newtown's Kiera Sughrue was seventh with a score of 377.00. Teammate Hannah Weatherby tied for 15th with a score of 307.60. Kylie Giroux placed 26th with a score of 169.15.

Shayna Millard competes in the postseason. Millard was 21st in the backstroke event during the Class LL meet.
Maddie Carter races in the SWC championships. Carter went on to placed 13th in the 100 yard butterfly race during the Class LL state meet.
