Newtown High School students Jordan Klein, Benjamin Reilly, and Melissa Shohet were named as semifinalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a nonprofit organization. Semifinalists in the program were named for their performance on the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, and semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition, which would make them eligible for scholarships.

NHS Principal Lorrie Rodrigue announced the news for the students on Friday, September 16, and said, "We're just so proud of you to represent Newtown High School."
