The Newtown Titans U14 boys’ soccer team swept the competition to take the U14 Blue Division title in the annual Fairfield FAST Soccer Tournament on September 1.
The revamped Titans, under coaches Dave Flook and Gavin Arneth, notched convincing wins over division rivals, beating Ridgefield 6-0, Weston 3-1, Wilton 4-0, and Fairfield United 3-0.
The Titans spread the scoring around in the first game against Ridgefield with goals from Jack Oltran, Nick Weiland, Aidan O’Leary, Josh Harper, James Barden, and Danny Arneth. In the second game, Evan Eggleston scored two goals against Weston, with assists from Aidan Ford and Oltran. After Weston made it 2-1, Ford buried a ball into the corner of the net to regain the two-goal lead. Goalie Michael Greenspan defended a last-minute penalty kick to secure the 3-1 win. In Game three, against Wilton, Oltran scored two early and the Titans never looked back. Nick Weiland scored off a setup header from Henry Petrillo, and Thomas Skrelja headed in an O’Leary corner for the fourth point. It was Nick Harper and Grant Moxham scoring and Jack Oltran registering an assist, to lead off the scoring in the final game, against Fairfield. Weiland’s 25-yard blast added an exclamation point to the Titans’ dominating tournament performance.
