  • "Strength For Service To God And Country:" NUMC Inaugurates Distribution Of Daily Meditations For First Responders

    Emergency personnel who rushed to Sandy Hook School on 12/14 were selected to be the first to receive a new daily devotional patterned after a manual that has given comfort to US military service people since World War II. The executive committee of the National Association of Conference Presidents of UMM recently allocated $1,500 to pay for the books to come to Newtown. Last Sunday, during the 10 am worship service, representatives of UMM joined Newtown United Methodist Church leaders to present copies to two local firefighters and an EMT. In doing so, NUMC was the first in the country to distribute the new devotionals.

    Born into a musical family, Steve Bell has been performing and touring since he was eight years old. He will be bringing his talents into Newtown Sunday, May 5, for a concert at St Rose of Lima at 7:30 pm. During a chat with The Newtown Bee earlier this week, Mr Bell talked about how his career in music was influenced by his father, who was a prison chaplain.

    New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury will be “Swinging Wide the Doors of Hospitality” to members and friends of Church Women United of Newtown/Greater Danbury for the 2013 May Friendship Day Celebration, taking place Friday, May 10, at 12:30 pm. The ecumenical ladies and friends of both towns will be enjoying lunch, and a worship service with music and entertainment, as they celebrate this annual event. For 2013 Church Women United has decided to follow a common theme for all three of its annual celebrations. This year CWU units will explore the biblical text Revelation 3:20 (“Behold I stand at the door and knock”).
