Alan J Hammar, 75, a resident of Newtown since 1965, died suddenly, at home, September 15. He was born to Eleanor and John Hammar, January 12, 1936, in Bridgeport.
Mr Hammar graduated from the Bullard Haven Technical School in 1954. He worked in the electronics and communications field, for TPC associates in Fairfield, for many years prior to partnering with coworkers to start ACA communications of Monroe.
He was a passionate fisherman and would spend much of his free time on his boat, fishing on Long Island Sound or at his fishing cabin on Lake Champlain in Vermont. Mr Hammar also enjoyed frequent family picnics and holidays spent with his family and friends.
His two children, Dale S. Ventres, and her husband Michael, and John A. Hammar, and his wife Kristen, all of Newtown, survive Mr Hammar. He was the husband of the late Nancy B. Hammar.
A memorial gathering will take place Saturday, September 21, from 2 to 6 pm, at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
