Marlene Fay (Collins) Sweitzer, 79, of Monroe, died February 23, in St Vincent’s Medical Center. She was born in Bridgeport, daughter of John J. and Clara Halvorsen Collins, and was the youngest of eight children. She was the wife of the late Donald Sweitzer.
Mrs Sweitzer was a 1954 graduate of Mount St Mary College, and Sacred Heart Hospital of Nursing, in Manchester, N.H. Her nursing career began and ended at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, where she retired as Director of Nursing.
She enjoyed quilting and was a member of The Little Club. After her retirement she traveled thru out the world. She was very proud of her son and his family, treasuring every minute she spent with them and her grandchildren. Mrs Sweitzer was very family and friend oriented, never forgetting to connect with a call or card no matter how far they roamed. She will be lovingly remembered by those who knew her for her kindness and humor, and sorely missed.
Her loving family includes her son Donald P Sweitzer and his wife, Peggy, of North Attleboro, Mass.; two cherished grandchildren; her beloved sister Claire Leslie of New Haven; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Wallace and John and her beloved sisters Catherine Nelson, Agnes Wupperfeld Bartram, Hilda Miller, and Nathalie Fredette.
Funeral services were scheduled for Friday, March 1, at 11 am, at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment to follow in Stepney Cemetery. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, February 28, from 4 to 8 pm.
