Queen Street Accident
A two-vehicle accident occurred in front of Newtown Middle School at 11 Queen Street at about 1:45 pm on June 1, police report.
Police said motorist Avis Ingram, 80, of Nunnawauk Meadows was driving a 1996 Plymouth Neon sedan northward on Queen Street, as motorist Janet Ziperstein, 40, of 5 Charter Ridge, who was driving a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica SUV, was attempting to make a left turn from middle school’s northernmost driveway to go southward on Queen Street.
The two vehicles collided. Ingram was transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Ingram received an infraction for passing in a no-passing zone, police said.
Church Hill Road Crash
Motorist Michael Caterson, 24, of Monroe, who was driving a 2012 Honda Accord coupe eastward near 51 Church Hill Road at about 3:11 pm on June 1, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Michael Burton, Jr, 18, of 107 Glen Road, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer SUV, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Burton an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and a warning for distracted driving.
Commuter Lot Break-In
State police report they are investigating an incident at the Wasserman Way commuter parking lot, near Exit 11 of Interstate 84, in which someone sometime between 3 am on June 3 and 7:30 pm on June 6, smashed a passenger window on a Nissan Frontier pickup truck and stole some Oakley-brand sunglasses and a thumb drive digital data storage device from the vehicle.
State police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2220.
Winton Farm Road 2-Car Accident
At about 1 pm on June 5, truck driver Oraine Walcott, 26, of West Haven, who was driving a 2013 Freightliner truck, was parked on Winton Farm Road, police said.
Westbound motorist Carolyn Mitchel, 55, of 22 Winton Farm Road, who was driving a 2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV, then stopped behind the Freightliner, police said.
The Freightliner then backed up and struck the Mercedes, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Walcott for unsafe backing.
Police report that they stopped motorist Karen De Los Santos, 49, of Danbury at about 11:30 pm on June 5 near 25 Berkshire Road to investigate.
Police said that De Los Santos had driven through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way.
Police said they charged De Los Santos with driving under the influence and with failure to obey a traffic control signal. After processing, police released her on $100 bail for a June 27 court appearance. .
Evading, Failure, Suspended
Police report that at about 5:47 am on June 6, they stopped motorist Aaron Hogue, 30, of Seymour near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane to investigate.
Police said they learned that Hogue had just been involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Sugar Street and South Main Street and then left the scene of the crash. There were no injuries.
Police said they charged Hogue with evading responsibility, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, and driving with a suspended license.
Hogue was released on $250 bail to appear in court on June 27.
Wasserman Way Collision
At about 7:22 am on June 6, motorist David Papp, 49, of Oxford was driving a 2012 Kia Optima sedan westward on Wasserman Way and then stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Nunnawauk Road, after which the Kia was struck from behind by westbound motorist Edgar Guachun, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer SUV, according to police.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported both drivers to Danbury Hospital, police said. Police report they issued Guachun an infraction for following too closely.
At about 3:26 pm on June 6, motorist Peter Wittko, 70, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Saab 9/5 auto eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet east of Exit 11, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorcyclist Alberto Queiroz, 24, of Redding, who was riding a 2002 Honda XR-650L.
Queiroz was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of abrasions, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.
Mile Hill Collision
A two-SUV collision occurred at the rear vehicular entrance to Walgreens Pharmacy on Mile Hill Road about 4:40 pm on June 6, police said.
Motorist Carol Corsetti, 69, of Cross River, N.Y., was driving a 2013 Volvo XC-70 SUV eastward on Mile Hill Road, as motorist Adam Carta, 40, of Brookfield was driving a 2014 Subaru SUV westward on Mile Hill Road, police said.
Both motorists then attempted to enter the Walgreens rear driveway at the same time, resulting in a collision, police report. There were no injuries.
Corsetti received a verbal warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.
Dodge Off Road
Police report that at about 5 pm on June 6, motorist Sarah Liska, 21, of 112 Hanover Road was driving a 1998 Dodge Caravan minivan which went off the road near 14 Riverside Road. Liska was injured in the accident, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Police report a two-car accident on South Main Street, near its intersection with Botsford Hill Road and Meadowbrook Road, about 5:55 pm on June 6.
The accident involved motorist Lisa Ottoshavett, 35, of 117 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 2009 Honda Civic sedan, and motorist Duane Trevail, 52, of 312 South Main Street, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai Accent coupe, police said.
All three people who were in the Honda reported pain, and the Honda’s two passengers were transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital, police said.
Police said they issued Ottoshavett an infraction for improper passing.
At about 6 pm on June 6, a 2013 Subaru SUV being driven by a Sandy Hook woman was struck by a vehicle described as a “silver-colored SUV” at the intersection of South Main Street, Country Club Road, and Mile Hill Road, police said.
The driver of the silver-colored SUV then left the scene of the crash. There were no injuries.

Truck vs SUV
At about 7 pm on June 6, trucker Walton Pierce, 44, of Glen Allen, Va., who was driving a 2014 Freightliner on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, attempted to merge to the left as the road narrowed, but struck the left exterior rear-view mirror of a 2013 Toyota RAV-4 SUV driven by Joanne Spar, 57, of Bethel, state police said.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Currituck Road Collision
Police report a two-vehicle collision near 7 Currituck Road at about 7 pm on June 6.
The collision involved motorist Alexandra Fogelberg, 19, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, and motorist Aaron Cox, 41, of 31 Pond Brook Road, who was driving a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser SUV, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Fogelberg a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Sandy Hook Accident
A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on eastbound Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, about 3:34 pm on June 7, according to police.
In that incident, a 2006 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV driven by Pamela Briggs, 62, of Sherman, struck the rear end of a 2006 Honda CRV SUV driven by Catherine Kean, 55, of 81 Berkshire Road, pushing the Honda into the rear end of 2012 Chevrolet Cruze sedan driven by Michael Lee, 50, of New Fairfield, police aid.
Kean received an injury in the collision, police said. Briggs received an infraction for following too closely and for distracted driving, police said.
Mercedes vs Kia
Police report a two-SUV accident on westbound Wasserman Way, near its intersection with Trades Lane, about 12:08 pm on June 8.
In that incident, motorist Stacy Kerslake, 36, of 19 Misty Vale Road, who was driving a 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV, happened to sneeze and then struck the rear end of a 2014 Kia Sorrento SUV driven by Jennifer Dalton, 41, of Brookfield, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kerslake an infraction for following too closely.
State police report that trucker Ahmed Wattara, 50, of Bronx, N.Y., who was driving a 2009 Kenworth tractor-trailer truck at about 1:26 pm on June 8, was safely parked on westbound Interstate 84’s right road shoulder about 2.3 miles east of Exit 9, when motorist Macialdo Dasilva, 36, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy, fell asleep at the wheel and then struck the parked truck.
There were no injuries. State police said that Dasilva failed to drive in the proper lane and was driving without a license.
Motorist Kelly Rowan, 48, of 3 Linden Drive was driving a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp about 6:46 am on June 9 in rainy conditions, when the truck lost traction, skidded, hit a rock ledge outcropping and then rolled onto its right side, state police report.
Rowan was not injured. State police said they issued Rowan a written warning for traveling to fast for conditions.
Flagpole Intersection Accident
About 8:35 am on June 10, a two-SUV accident occurred at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street.
Motorist Swapna Patra, 38, of 24 Turkey Roost Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV westward on Church Hill Road, stopped at a stop sign at the intersection and then entered the intersection, but collided with motorist Holly McNamara, 47, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Honda CRV SUV northward on Main Street, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Patra a written warning for a vehicular violation.
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Orchard Hill Road and South Main Street about 4:17 pm on June 10, police report.
The collision involved motorist Frank Schovanec, 43, of 117 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 1990 Plymouth Voyager minivan, and motorist Jeffrey Hoffman, 19, of 9 Brandywine Lane, who was driving a 2012 Honda Civic sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said that Schovanec was driving with a suspended license, made an unsafe movement, and failed to use a turn signal.
Crash, DUI Charge
Police report that motorist Charles Steck Ferris, Jr, 24, of 329 Berkshire Road was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy sedan on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Zoar Road, about 8 pm on June 10, when the Subaru crossed over the road’s center lines and then struck a 2010 Acura TL sedan driven by John Goncalves, 36, of Danbury.
The Subaru then flipped over onto its roof, coming to rest upside down on a stone wall alongside the roadway. A vehicle fire was extinguished.
Ferris reported pain, but refused medical transport, police said. The accident caused travel delays and detours in the area for nearly two hours.
Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company responded to the scene, as did Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Police charged Ferris with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.
