Strutt Your Mutt On May 18

Grab a leash and join the 4th Annual Strutt Your Mutt dog walk and festival on May 18 from 11 am to 3 pm at Fairfield Hills. Enjoy entertainment, demonstrations in agility and obedience, and a vendors fair.

“This is a year of community, healing, and exercise,” states a recent press release. Certified Therapy Dogs from Canine Training Behavioral Services; (caninetrainingctbs.com) will lead the pack on a trail walk. Dogs must remain on a leash at all times. This year’s entry fee is $5 per dog cash only. Also available will be T-shirts: “A Tired Dog Is A Good Dog” in a new color for $10. All proceeds go toward the Park and Bark dog park, which is scheduled to open in the Fall.

Ms Reggiano hopes residents can help spread the word about this year’s Strutt Your Mutt  among dog-loving friends, or help as a volunteer. “We need help from the community to make all of this happen,” she wrote in her recent release. Adults and teens are welcome for planning and support before or on the day of the dog walk. Contact: friendsofnewtownparkandbark@gmail.com. Visit the park website at newtownparkandbark.org to get the latest information about park development, e-newsletter, meeting dates, donation information, volunteer opportunities, local links and more. The group's next regular meeting will be March 19 at 6:30 pm in the Municipal Center, room 1 — use the Simpson Avenue entrance.

Ms Reggiano looks forward to the park opening in the late fall, she said. The opening date “depends on weather.”

Most of the park funding — $50,000 for fencing — is in place. She is ready to begin ordering supplies. Thanks to roughly $2 million donated by two late residents to benefit Newtown’s animals, Ms Reggiano said park organizers received part of those funds to include additions to the original plans such as agility equipment and a splash pad.
