A few moments later Sandy Hook School math/science specialist Kris Feda introduced Bill Nye “The Science Guy” to the assembled students. Ms Feda explained that Mr Nye has made science his career and shared some highlights from his work.
For Newtown’s public schools 2014 was an eventful year. Students raised money for causes and charities, completed projects, and demonstrated a range of abilities throughout the year.
The start of 2014 had Newtown Middle School students testing their knowledge in the school’s final round of the National Geographic Geography Bee, on January 9. After a number of rounds, student Michael Arena was named as the school’s winner.
2014 was a positive planning year for the new Sandy Hook Elementary School.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are giving fellow senators pins that show how many people in their state have been killed by guns since Adam Lanza shot 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School nearly two years ago.
The senators’ own pins bear the number 227.
Mr Blumenthal said he and Mr Murphy are distributing the pins to pressure Congress to act on gun control.
After clearing trees and stumps from the footprint of the new Sandy Hook Elementary School, site work to make the new foundation area stable will commence in the coming days according to a Consigli Construction spokesperson.

Consigli Construction Co., Inc has broken ground for Newtown’s new 87,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Sandy Hook Elementary School. With offices in Hartford, Consigli was selected as construction manager to build the new $50 million school, which will accommodate 500-plus students from prekindergarten through fourth grade.
“There has been a tremendous outreach to allow everyone impacted to have a voice,” said First Selectman Pat Llodra, “and the beginning of construction will be a turning point in the community.”
