  • One Way Of Remembering

    To the Editor,

I have been away for a number of months, so I am unaware if this idea has been put forward. I note the beautiful job being done in Sandy Hook Center on a new stone wall. I was wondering if we could rename the wall as “The Sandy Hook Memorial Wall,” in recognition of all that so tragically lost their lives in the terrible events that occurred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

  • Will It Ever End?

    To the Editor:

  • Francine Wheeler Gives The Weekly Presidential Address

Francine Wheeler gave the Weekly Address from The White House on Saturday, April 13, one day before the four-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings.

“Hi,” she began. “As you’ve probably noticed, I’m not the President. I’m just a citizen. And as a citizen, I’m here at the White House today because I want to make a difference and I hope you will join me.

  • SHACK Looking For Creative Ways To Continue Into The Summer

Wendy Leahy Mitchell, Newtown High Class of ‘87 and founder/director of The SHACK (The Sandy Hook Arts Center for Kids), is hoping a combination of direct public support, grants, nominal fees for activities, and strategic fundraising will keep her cozy little refuge for those still feeling the effects of 12/14 available for the community.  A fundraiser on April 28 will feature an auction of art created by local children as well as celebrities including Edie Falco and Regis Philbin.

  • Are We Taking The Time To Heal?

    To the Editor:

As the parent of a student at Sandy Hook School December 14th was a horrific day.  I am blessed to have my child.

My sympathy and regret goes to the parents who lost a child that terrible morning.  I’m so sorry for your loss.

After the 14th I thought life would gradually improve.  Sadly, I’ve learned it gets worse before it gets better.  Emotional healing is a process, not an event.

  • How Soon They Forget

    To the Editor:

The New Haven Register editorial of April 11, 2013 notes that our “senior” US Senator, Mr Blumenthal, has used the Sandy Hook shootings, to ask for money for his next political campaign in 2016.

I find this action to be sickening, disturbing, and downright wrong, bit what do we expect from someone who lied about his military service to promote himself for higher public office?

  • Sandy Hook School Task Force Hears Site Options

“Dumbfounded” was the word that spilled from Sandy Hook resident Aimee Tabor’s lips, following a 2½-hour presentation to the members of the Sandy Hook School Task Force responsible for presenting a recommendation to the Board of Education as to the future of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Ms Tabor was the first of several residents present to come to the microphone, at the Friday evening, April 12 meeting, the second in a series of four scheduled Task Force meetings.

  • Francine Wheeler To Give Presidential Weekly Address This Weekend

Francine Wheeler will be giving the Weekly Address from The White House on Saturday, April 13, 2013, one day before the four-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings.

Mrs Wheeler and her husband, David, lost their son Ben, 6, on 12/14. They have another son, Nate.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced the President's decision to have Mrs Wheeler offer comments on April 13 during this afternoon's press briefing.
