Edwin Tout, a fourth grade student at Sandy Hook Elementary School and a Pack 170 Webelos Den 5 member, was one of nine scouts chosen from across the country that represented the Boy Scouts of America in Washington, DC, February 22 to 27, to present the Boy Scouts of America’s annual Report to the Nation to top US officials.
The report is designated in the Boy Scouts of America’s congressional charter and highlighted the organization’s achievements in 2013, according to the Boy Scouts of America.
A week after presenting the first designs for the new Sandy Hook Elementary School to members of the Public Building and Site Commission and the Board of Education, representatives of Svigals + Partners were back with more concepts on Wednesday, February 19.

A South Carolina company that has installed protective window coverings at the US Capitol and other buildings around the world is apologizing for an email advertisement that used a photo of the shot-out entrance to Sandy Hook School.
The Associated Press reported January 31 that Commercial Window Shield of Taylors, S.C., sent an email Tuesday to school officials across Connecticut. The email said the window coverings can stop bullets and keep out intruders.
Former resident and renowned children’s book illustrator and author Steven Kellogg and award-winning author Patricia MacLachlan visited Sandy Hook Elementary School on Thursday, January 16.
Mr Kellogg and Ms MacLachlan worked together to create Snowflakes Fall in memory of those lost at Sandy Hook School on 12/14. According to a description of the book, it portrays the beauty, joy, and sorrow of life’s natural cycle.
Sandy Hook Elementary School’s library was open for school families to stop by on Thursday, January 16, to take out books while C.H. Booth Library remains closed for remediation work after a January 4 flood caused by broken sprinkler pipes.
Sandy Hook School library/media specialist Yvonne Cech said the school library was open from 3:30 to 6:30 pm, and was run completely by volunteers.
