Sandy Hook Elementary School students ventured with parents and Math/Science Specialist Kris Feda to the Victory Garden in Fairfield Hills on Wednesday, June 3, to plant and work on rows overseen by the school community.
Both Reed Intermediate School and Sandy Hook School have two rows at the Victory Garden. An after school group from Reed visits the garden weekly, when planting is seasonal, with Reed teacher Dawn Ford, who was also present to help the Sandy Hook School students on June 3.
Artwork created by fourth grade students at Sandy Hook Elementary School was on display for the school’s Student Art Show on Thursday, May 7.
According to Sandy Hook School art teacher Leslie Gunn, who oversaw the evening event, each fourth grade student at the school had a sculpture, a diorama made with a clay piece, an acrylic painting, and a printmaking piece on display for the event.
To kick off its One School, One Read three-week event, Sandy Hook Elementary School hosted Danny Rodrigue, stage name Danny Magic, on Friday, March 13.
According to Sandy Hook School language arts consultant Cynthia McArthur, a One School, One Read committee read about 20 books before selecting this year’s book, which will be read by the entire school community over the next three weeks.
Due to an expected winter storm, the Friday evening performance of City of Angels, at Newtown High School, has been canceled. Pre-purchased tickets can be used at any of the other performances this weekend.

A few moments later Sandy Hook School math/science specialist Kris Feda introduced Bill Nye “The Science Guy” to the assembled students. Ms Feda explained that Mr Nye has made science his career and shared some highlights from his work.
2014 was a positive planning year for the new Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Consigli Construction oversaw the demolition of the old Sandy Hook School in the fall of 2013, and by 2014 plans for the new building were taking shape, following community input and work between the town and design team, led by Svigals + Partners.
