Today In Newtown: The Six-Month Anniversary

UPDATED (Friday, June 14, 10:15 am):  The community-wide gathering originally planned for Fairfield Hills at 7:30 pm this evening will take place at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.


A few special events have been organized in Newtown for today, the six-month anniversary of 12/14.

(9:30 am-9:30 pm)

Moment of silence, then press conference and rally to kick off “No More Names: National Drive to Reduce Gun Violence,” hosted by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Governor Malloy, First Selectman Llodra, Erica Lafferty et al expected to speak. Event will continue until 9:30 tonight with reading of names of those killed by guns.



7:30 pm at Fairfield Hills; will be moved to Newtown Congregational Church if rain (NCC’s phone number is 203-426-9024 if weather is questionable; we will post change of location on website, Facebook and Twitter if the event does get moved) (NOTE: This event has been moved to NCC.)

*bring lawn chairs, blankets for seating

*clergy, First Selectman, first responders, et al expected to speak

*attendees invited to add messages to banners going to Oklahoma

*hosted by Newtown Interfaith Clergy Association




*Newtown Congregational Church will ring bells at 9:30, sanctuary will be open at least all morning, if not longer

*Newtown United Methodist Church will ring bells at 9:30, sanctuary will be open 9 am until 2 pm

*New Hope Community Church will have grief counseling available from Reverend Jim Solomon, call 203-770-3745

*Trinity Episcopal Church will ring bells at 9:30, sanctuary will be open all day (Trinity will also dedicate its lighthouse memorial and then its outdoor labyrinth tonight, at 6 pm)



*Christ the King Lutheran Church will have its monthly memorial service at 7 pm

*Congregation Adath Israel will have a special service at 6:30
