A spring cleanup is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, in Sandy Hook Center. Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) President Michael Burton said that just like last year, volunteers are welcome to help clean the Pootatuck River banks and roadsides of litter, and “maybe plant some flowers.”
The Pootatuck runs through the center and behind many of the shops downtown.
PJs Laundromat owner and cleanup coordinator Sharon Doherty asks that volunteers meet behind the laundromat at 1 pm. The event will run to 4 pm.
“We are encouraging people to bring their rakes, shovels, gloves, trash bags, and we want to do some plantings,” said Mrs Doherty said. She also asks that participants bring flowers, mulch, etc. “We want to spruce it up and make it look pretty again,” she said.
Both SHOP and Sandy Hook business owners are asking that people come “and help bring some life and beauty back into Sandy Hook Center,” she said.
A Sandy Hook Center spring fling event is also being scheduled, for Saturday, April 27. Details about the open house event including special sales or discounts will be announced.
Contact Mrs Doherty at 203-426-8679 to volunteer for the April 7 cleanup, or arrive by 1 pm that day.
