Customers of Friendly Citgo on South Main Street have a once-a-year opportunity today: The chance to throw a pie into store manager Carol Lafreniere’s face. Ms Lafreniere has organized another fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Whipped cream pies are just waiting for customers who make a $5 donation to MDA. Carol and crew are hoping to raise $600 this afternoon, which will cover the cost for a child to spend one week at an MDA-sponsored summer camp. Shamrocks Against Dystrophy® are also available to help the fundraising effort. They are $1 for a green paper shamrock and $5 for a gold one. In addition, Cherries Cupcakes — a cupcake shop located across the street from the convenience store and gas station, which plans to open on March 20 — has donated cupcakes for anyone who makes a donation to MDA today. The fundraiser continues until 5 pm at 151 South Main Street. Store employee Theresa Roberto, on the left, has waited months for her chance to be the first in line to take up the pie-in-the-face offer.
Dan Loren and his family “purchased” three whipped cream pies Thursday morning. Each pie represented a $5 donation to MDA, and all three were used for the annual Pie The Manager Fundraiser at Friendly Citgo.
Under that oversize shamrock and behind the pie tin is Carol Lafreniere. Loren Thebodo walks away, having just participated in the annual Pie The Manager Fundraiser at Friendly Citgo.
