Newtown High School’s gymnastics team had three competitions this past week, and came out on top in two of them. Newtown capped off the busy stretch of meets with a visit to Daniel Hand of Madison on February 11.
The Nighthawks scored 124.15 points in the meet. Hand had 140.85, and Glastonbury scored 131.6. Elisha Wilson scored an 8.6 on the vault, an 8.8 on bars 8.8, and an 8.85 for her floor routine. Meagan Foy had a 7.7 on the vault, an 8 on bars, and a 7.7 on the floor. Anna Jannott had a 7.8 on the vault, an 8.05 on the bars, a 7.8 on the balance beam, and a 7.9 on the floor. Sammie Olah scored a 7.8 for her floor routine, and Sammie Gilbert had a 7.85 effort on the floor.
On February 10, Newtown had a makeup meet at Jonathan Law of Milford, and came out on top, scoring 131.45 points. Pomperaug of Southbury was second with 125.25, Law scored 123.85, and Nonnewaug of Woodbury had 100.45. Wilson had an 8.5 on the vault and an 8.8 on the floor. Kaitlyn Tumney scored an 8.3 on the vault, an 8.1 on bars, an 8.4 on the beam, and an 8.75 on the floor. Foy had an 8.25 on the vault and an 8.2 on the beam. Jannott scored an 8.3 on the vault, an 8.4 on the beam, and an 8.0 for her floor routine. Jenny Indelicato had an 8.25 on the vault. Daisey Zheng scored an 8.7 on the beam. Cameron Vazquez had an 8.1 on the beam. Olah scored an 8.05 on the floor.
On February 7, Newtown hosted Oxford at Kinetic Kids in Oxford, and scored 129.15 to defeat Oxford (73.2). Wilson had an 8.1 on the vault, 8.9 on bars, 8.1 on beam, and a 9.15 on the floor. Tumney scored an 8.0 on the vault and had an 8.9 on the floor. Jannott had an 8.1 on the vault, 8.5 on beam, and 8.3 on the floor. Foy scored an 8.0 on the balance beam.
