The Newtown Cultural Commission announced on March 27 a $500 scholarship has been added to NCAC’s original $1,000 scholarship for a resident of Newtown who is a high school senior and who is planning on attending advanced education in the next year in a field of artistic study.
The scholarship is open to any Newtown resident, regardless of the high school they are attending.
Applications are to be submitted no later than April 12, 2013. All candidates will be interviewed by members of the Cultural Arts Commission and will be notified of the date, time and location.
The fields of artistic study include, but are not limited to, music, painting, sculpture, poetry, photography, cinematography, journalism, literature, culinary art, and architectural design, theater/costume design.

The scholarship has been made possible through funds raised by the first Newtown Arts Festival, in September 2012. The 2013 festival is set for September 21-23.
