UNCASVILLE — On Saturday, March 23, country superstar Kenny Chesney performed at Mohegan Sun Arena. It was the second of two sold out shows by the performer last weekend, and a number of Newtown residents had been invited to Saturday's show as special guests.

Among those attending his performance as VIP guests were high school students Gabrielle DeBartolomeo of Sandy Hook and Catherine Caroe of Woodbury.

While on stage Saturday night, Mr Chesney accepted a “Sandy Hook Strong”  memory bracelet from the girls and wore it during his performance. The performer then dedicated his popular single “On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful” to one of the victims of 12/14, whose family who was also in attendance that evening.

(On January 14, a special video of Chesney singing "Amazing Grace" was aired during the closing minutes of CNN's Anderson Cooper 360. Grace McDonnell, one of the children killed on 12/14, was reportedly a big fan of the singer.)

On December 15, 2012, as a response to the Sandy Hook tragedy, Gabby and Catherine, both day students at Westover School in Middlebury, started a fundraiser for the victims’ families. They made and sold green and white lapel ribbons. Donations poured in from not only Westover students but from family and friends living across the tri-state area.

To date, they have made and sold more than 1,000 ribbons, raising raised more than $3,500. The money the girls have received for their lapel ribbons has been deposited at Newtown Savings Bank, into The Sandy Hook School Support Fund administered by the United Way.
