David Harris

David Alan Harris died on September 25, following an extended illness.

Mr Harris, 83, was a longtime resident of Newtown.

He was born on February 11, 1930, in Southgate, Middlesex, England, to Agnes and Reginald Harris.

He is survived his daughter and son-in-law, Nicky and Tom Conroy of Newtown; a stepson, Christian Chemero of Newtown; a stepdaughter, Lisa Galloway of Brookfield; and seven grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, MaryEllen (Bjorklund) Harris.

Mr Harris loved fishing. For many years he and MaryEllen took extended visits to Ireland, a highlight of which was always the good fishing they found there. He and his late wife were also owners of the former Saugatuck Tackle Shop.

He was retired from Owenoak International, a travel agency based in Norwalk.

A dear man, Mr Harris will be missed by those who had the opportunity to meet and befriend him.

Mr Harris and his wife always had dogs in their home. He is also survived by a golden retriever named Maddie.

Memorial arrangements will be made by the family at a later date.

David Harris

I first met Maryellen when she worked at the Video store in Newtown. Soon after, I met this wonderful man, her husband, David. He was truly unique and kind, as was Mare. They brought something into my life that very few people do, dignity. Maddie, their Golden Retriever, came from me when I brought her home from the pound and realized I couldn't keep her. They took her in and fell in love with her as they did all animals. She was lucky to have such a couple taking care of her.
I hope David and Mare are reunited with their previous black lab, Molly, another love of their lives and are fishing in Ireland somewhere. I am proud to have known them.
RIP
Love, Kathy & Carm Pinto
