Beautiful Babies

To the Editor:

“A new baby is like the beginning of all things-wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.” – Eda J. Le Shan

There is no other happy event that unites us as a town more than our Labor Day Parade. This year, the bulk of the money from the Newtown Beautiful Baby Photo Contest will be donated to this wonderful tradition. The vote money collected at Lobsterfest will go to the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Co.

As always, 100 percent of the money raised by the Beautiful Baby Contest will go to non-profits. The Beautiful Baby Contest is not a live pageant. Photos are posted on a voting booth. A piggybank slit is above each photo, into which votes in the form of dollar bills or checks are inserted. The child whose photograph raises the most amount of money for charity earns the winning title and rides in the Newtown Labor Day Parade as “The Beautiful Baby Winner, gets their photo published in The Newtown Bee, and a Family Fun Prize Basket.

This is the official kickoff of 2014’s contest. If you know of a cute baby or child (newborn – 4 years of age), please let their parents know about the contest. Entering is easy. Simply mail a non-returnable 4” X 4” (cut a 4 x 6”) photo, with the baby’s name, contact phone (and email if there is one), written clearly on the back, plus a $10 check entry fee check made out to “Newtown Labor Day Parade” to Baby Contest, C/O Lois Barber; 33 Zoar Rd; Sandy Hook, CT 06482.

The winner does not have to reside in Newtown, but be close enough to participate in the parade. You can email any questions to babycontest2010@gmail.com or call Lois Barber at 203 270-8017.

The voting booth will be up for 2 ½ weeks in June, starting at the Sandy Hook Firehouse and then traveling to Stop & Shop Supermarket, Sand Hill Plaza. Space is limited, so please enter as soon as possible. First baby entered gets their photo in The Newtown Bee!
