Newtown Bridge Club will host workshops and supervised play for bridge players at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown, during May and June. Players are welcome to attend to educational events alone or with bridge partners.

Supervised play has been added to the weekly Tuesday evening schedule from 7-9 pm. It offers novice players the opportunity to practice with their peers and ask questions while playing hands. An instructor is standing by to help. The cost is $10 ($8 for Newtown Bridge Club members).

Easybridge workshops on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm, focus on modern bidding basics. Each workshop consists of a brief lesson followed by play and discussion of hands related to the session's topic. Tuition is $12 per workshop ($9 for members).

Upcoming topics: "Important Rebids," on May 11; "Preemptive Bids," May 18; "Strong Opening Bids," May 25; "Minor Suit Opening Bids," June 1; and "Jacoby Transfers," June 8.

Monday evening workshops, "Improving Your Judgment - Opening the Bidding," will be held 6:30-8:30 pm, May 23 through June 13. These workshops use experience from playing hands to emphasize teaching points. The topics cover opening bids in first and second position and how things are significantly different in third and fourth position, obstructive opening bids designed to interfere with the opponents when they may have the balance of power, and how to reach the best game with strong opening bids.

Tuition is $50 for the full series ($40 for members) and includes the textbook, Improving Your Judgment 1 - Opening the Bidding by Audrey Grant. Players may attend individual workshops for $15 each and purchase the textbook separately.

"Two-Over-One Game Force" workshops on Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 am, June 23 through July 14, will introduce players to the recent widespread bidding trend in bridge. The topics address two-over-one concepts, forcing 1 notrump responses, opener's and responder's rebids, and the choice between game and slam.

Tuition is $57 ($45 for members) and includes the textbook, 2 over 1 Game Force by Audrey Grant and Eric Rodwell. Players may attend individual workshops for $15 and purchase the textbook separately.

Games are played in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown.
