A young Irish woman (Ronan) crosses the pond to start a new life in 1950s New York in this beautifully crafted old-fashioned romance. The film received Academy Award nominations, for Best Picture and Best Actress, the latter for Ronan's poignant performance as a young woman who falls in love with a local and must decide between two countries and the lives that exist within when her past catches up with her. Filmed on location in Ireland and Brooklyn, the film was the British Academy winner for Best Picture of the Year.
