Letters to the Editor

  • Thanks To The Voters

To the Editor: I would like to say thank you to all of the voters who came out to the polls on Election Day, November 5th. I am especially honored to be elected to the Planning & Zoning Commission as an alternate and look forward to working with all of the commission members.

  • The Importance Of Facts And Common Sense

To the Editor: I would like to thank Newtown for granting me the opportunity to continue serving on our Legislative Council. I appreciate the support from the District 3 voters, and I look forward to helping our town prosper and grow. Whereas serving as an un-elected official this past year has been a challenging experience, it has primarily been immensely rewarding. I am grateful to be able continue in this role as an elected official.

  • Honored To Serve

To the Editor: I am writing to thank all of the voters of Newtown who voted for me last week. It will be a pleasure to serve all of you for the next two years. I believe we are at a critical time in our community where we have the ability to work closely together across party lines to be the leaders in our state and across the country by creating a model of fiscal responsibility, social communication and transparency.

  • Library Board Needs To Come Out In The Open

To the Editor: I am writing this letter to let the C.H. Booth Board of Trustees know that we are still watching and to encourage others in town to continue to do just that. Since September 16th, we've heard little or nothing about the plans of the board to create a search committee and hopefully to use an inclusive search process to find a new library director. I believe that to regain the trust of the community, the board will need to break their habit of secrecy and be more forthcoming with information. I recommend that updates be regularly posted in The Newtown Bee and on the Booth webpage and that minutes be more accurate and detailed.

  • Appreciative And Hopeful

To the Editor: I’m writing to say thank you to the voters of District 1 for allowing me to continue my role as your Democratic Legislative Council representative. I truly appreciate the opportunity. To those who didn’t vote for me, I promise do my best to earn your respect and see if maybe next time around I can earn your vote too.

  • Where I Am From

To the Editor: While traveling, we went to dinner with a group of colleagues from around the world. As we all started to share our stories I was asked where I grew up, and a sudden sinking feeling came over me as I knew as I answered what would follow and how the energy of the conversation would change. And sure enough I was greeted with the “Wow, what happened there was just tragic, you must really have been impacted by it.”

  • Generosity Grows In The Victory Garden

To the Editor: I’m writing on behalf of the management and residents of Nunnawauk Meadows to express our special thanks to Harvey Pessin, Victory Garden Director, and all of the hard-working volunteers who helped plant, harvest and deliver the delicious vegetables from the Victory Garden during these past few months.

  • Read-A-Treat

To the Editor: Many of you enjoyed Read-A-Treat on Halloween in front the library. The event was a success and many thanks go out to all those who helped make it happen. We thought it would be appropriate to let the community know how it came about. The books were collected after a Facebook page –Books for Sandy Hook – was created back in December by one of your neighbors from Monroe, who is also a teacher.

  • A Short Note Of Thanks

To the Editor: Just a short note of thanks to all off the voters who came out to vote in this week's election and especially for the voters of District 1 who elected me to serve as their representative for a third term on the Legislative Council.

  • Continuing The Discussion

To the Editor: Upon waking the morning after the election, I was glad that the campaign for the Board of Education was behind me, but that is only because I know that working to secure the best opportunities for Newtown’s students is ahead.
