‘Direct Link’ Emergency Response Service

Newtowners Tony and Jeanene Chieffo recently introduced Direct Link In-Home Emergency Monitoring service as a division of their company, Home Helpers. Direct Link is now available to elder citizens, new mothers, home health care, and recuperative care recipients throughout the Fairfield and New Haven Counties area.

Direct Link (www.DirectLink911.com) allows an individual to remain in the comforts of home as opposed to going into an assisted living facility, nursing home, or long-term health care facility. The in-home emergency service is monitored 24 hours each day, 365 days each year. “What’s different about Direct Link,” explained Mr Chieffo, “is that once an individual presses the button on their Direct Link pendant, their personalized information appears on the monitoring computer screen based on their prior instructions on who to contact in an emergency.”

He said the client can specify how calls are to be handled.

“Our trained staff will dispatch an ambulance if necessary, contact a neighbor to check on the stricken individual, call the patient’s doctor, and/or make contact with a family member,” said Mr Chieffo. “Our service is high quality in that we personally check in or call our clients or family members on a regular basis to ensure they are satisfied with the service.

“Many of our clients have a number of medical conditions which make the everyday activities of life difficult,” he noted. Direct Link clients include those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s, diminished vision, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, cancer patients, joint replacements, and individuals recovering from various medical conditions. “It gives peace of mind, especially overnight,” said Mr Chieffo, who is also a Certified Senior Advisor who can provide personalized care if an individual needs daily assistance.

Direct Link offers immediate connection to several designated contacts from one push of the emergency pendant button. Trained staff instantly assesses the emergency and connects to predetermined contacts according to the need whether it is an accident, medical emergency, fire, break-in, or any situation requiring emergency assistance.

One simple press of the small, wireless button pendant worn around the neck, or on the wrist, offers all those instant contacts. And since the service is not affiliated with any specific health care organization, Direct Link does not require long-term commitments on the part of the pendant wearer.

“Our service is offered on a monthly fee basis,” explained Mr Chieffo, “and there is no equipment to purchase.”

The Direct Link Plus program includes emergency call buttons strategically located throughout the pendant wearer’s home.

“Most accidents and health emergencies happen in the bathroom or late at night,” he added. “The special Plus program helps ensure complete coverage because many people do not wear their pendants in the shower, bathtub, or when they are sleeping.”

Users of Direct Link can register six designated contacts in case of emergency, and individuals for nonemergency check-ins on the pendant wearer.

“That is a true comfort for the Direct Link client and his or her family members. Knowing that five people are going to immediately take action to help them in a time of need is ideal,” stated Jeanene Chieffo. The company offers free installation and two wireless, waterproof pendants so individuals can strategically place the emergency pendant anywhere they frequent most such as the bathroom or kitchen.

Additional services offered by the Direct Link in-home emergency service are 32-hour battery backup, activation buttons and base system battery backup are continuously monitored for weak battery signal, the system is compatible with internet telephone services (voice over IP), plus the emergency signal will be picked up in most home yard areas.
