Gifted Pianist To Perform At Edmond Town Hall This Month

With a reputation as a performer of "romantic sweep and arching lyricism" (The New York Times) and "a pianist with superb technique" (The Boston Globe), Diane Walsh has created an international career of distinction. On disc, as well as in recital, chamber music and concerto performances worldwide, she has brought a clear vision and superlative skill to a broad range of repertoire from Bach to Bolcom.newtownfriendsofmusic.org . Her recent work on the theater stage has further illuminated the ingenuity of her musical gifts.

Newtown Friends of Music will welcome Ms Walsh back to the stage of Edmond Town Hall Theatre on Sunday, February 21, for a 3 pm performance.

Among her many honors and awards, Ms Walsh won the Concert Artists Guild International Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and was winner of top prizes at both the Munich International Piano Competition and Salzburg Mozart Competition, the William Kapell International Competition in Maryland, and the Busoni International Competition in Italy.

A prizewinner in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, she also won that competition's chamber music award.

Ms Walsh is a member of the piano faculty at Mannes School of Music, The New School University's Music Conservatory in New York City. She is a Steinway Artist.

Her program on February 21 will include works by Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach, and George Rochberg.

All students are invited and welcome to attend this and all Newtown Friends of Music concerts for free.   Vouchers are available through school and area music teachers and also at the ticket window on the day of the concert. Single

Tickets are $25 for adults, cash or check only. Students K-12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Students with student ID are also admitted free of charge.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending check and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Newtown Friends of Music, PO Box 295, Newtown CT 06470-0295.

The box office at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, will open at 2 pm the afternoon of the concert.

Parking is free behind the former town hall building, and the facility is handicap accessible. An informal reception following the concert will offer concertgoers the opportunity to meet with Ms Walsh.
