Gaynor Sets Diving Marks; Cagers Split With Masuk

Diver Kyle Gaynor set Newtown High School's diving and pool records with a score of 281.6 during the boys' swimming and diving team's 95.5-84.5 loss to visiting Brookfield February 9. Both of Newtown High's basketball teams were in action against Masuk of Monroe. The boys earned a 54-45 win on the road, and the girls fell 48-45 at home.The Bee.

Chris Lafky was first in the 100 yard butterfly race, clocking in with a time of 58.61, and the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Peter Fagerholm, David Lawrence, Lafky, and Tommy Horan was first in a time of 3:34.76. The Nighthawk swimmers and divers recorded ten second-place finishes in the meet.

On the hardwood, the boys were led by Joe Duero's 17 points, 15 of which came via 3-pointers, and 11 points from Sam Duffy. Dillon Palumbo and Mason Melillo both dropped in eight points. Nick Weiland and Duffy had eight and six rebounds, respectively.

The NHS girls' cagers lost hold of a seven-point halftime lead as Masuk scored 31 second-half points. Mali Klorczyk had 18 points to lead the Nighthawks.
