Gary Allen Phillips

Gary Allen Phillips, 60, of Southbury, died unexpectedly April 24. He was born in Danbury, January 7, 1956, the son of Mabel and George Phillips of Newtown.

Besides his parents, he leaves his wife of nearly 40 years, Mary Ann; his son Justin, and wife Ashley, of Southbury; his daughters Kayleigh, and her husband Kevin Martin, of Wallingford, Carli Phillips, and George Young, of Meriden, and Taylor Phillips of Wallingford. He also leaves behind his only sister, Diane Doling, and her husband Robert; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and his dog.

He graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School in 1974. Mr Phillips was employed by Georgia-Pacific/Blue Linx in Newtown for 25 years, and was most recently employed by PrimeSource of Waterbury. He was also employed by The Gym in Southbury, where he was loved by many.

Mr Phillips was a racing enthusiast who was mostly passionate about open-wheel racing. He personally raced go-karts and mini sprints, and was the flagman for Nutmeg Karting Association for many years.

Services will take place Sunday, May 1, at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury. Calling hours are noon to 3 pm; a memorial service will be conducted at 3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Double Dog Rescue, PO Box 435, Unionville CT 06085.
