EverWonder Children's Museum's calendar for December includes events for the entire family.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.

Please note the museum will be open until 2 pm on Saturday, December 24 (Christmas Eve). It will be closed on Sunday, December 25.

The museum will also have an abbreviated schedule, 11 am to 2 pm, and an activity available, on New Year's Eve day.

Admission is $7 per person, and children under the age of 1 year old are free. Museum members are free. Parking at the museum is also free.

The event calendar is subject to change without notice. Please check everwondermuseum.org or the museum's Facebook page for calendar changes and announcements.

Story Lab for Young Explorers meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am. The 30-minute program of STEM themed stories, activities, and crafts takes place in the EverWonder classroom. Parents must stay with their children during the program, which is included with museum admission.

Special Activities

The following events are ongoing during museum hours unless otherwise noted.

Science Lab: Build an Animal DenWednesday, December 14 -

As the temperature drops, animals either migrate, adapt or build habitats.

On December 14, children will learn about and design habitats for arctic animals. After designing their habitats, children will construct their design through using toothpicks and marshmallows.

Winter WonderlandSunday, December 18 -

Who wants to build a snowman? On December 18, museum visitors will be celebrating and learning about winter's favorite frosty friends during a Winter Wonderland celebration.

In a Science Demo, children will learn about energy fluxes related to snowmelt as they help snowmen melt by dropping vinegar on top of premade baking soda snowmen.

They will also work on their scientific process skills through Snowman Observation. In that project, children will place one ice snowman outside and one ice snowman inside the museum. They will then observe which snowmen melt the fastest. Each child will make a prediction about which will melt the fastest and record their observations.

In the Winter Craft activity, children will work on their fine gross motor skills through building snowmen out of cotton pads, ribbon, buttons, dried beans, orange felt, twigs, and plastic ice crystals in plastic trays. Children will build their own snowmen from scratch over and over again through switching parts and accessories.

Wednesday, December 21 - Science Lab: Candy Cane Science

In this science lab, children will predict and observe dissolving candy canes.

Children will predict which liquid - out of cold water, hot water, oil and vinegar - will dissolve candy canes the fastest. After making their predictions, children will place a candy cane into each of the liquids and time how fast it takes the candy canes to dissolve.

Wednesday, December 28 - Science/Art Lab: Bird Feeders

Make a sweet treat for our favorite winged friends: construct a bird feeder with toilet paper, Crisco, birdseed, and string.

Happy New Year!Sunday, December 31 -

On New Year's Eve, children will be invited to create and decorate their own party hats to ring in the new year.

Formed in January 2011 by a group of parents, EverWonder Children's Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring children and families in northern Fairfield County through the use of hands-on museum exhibits and demonstrations.
