DUI Warrant

Police report they informed Joel Rivas, 37, of New Haven on July 3 that they had a warrant for his arrest, after which he turned himself over to police.

Police charged Rivas with driving under the influence in connection with a past incident on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook. After processing, police released Rivas on a promise to appear July 17 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

MV Charges

Police said they observed Richard J. Novia, Jr, 18, of 18 Lake Road driving a vehicle in the St Rose Church parking lot and applying the emergency brake while traveling, creating a loud noise, late on the night of July 3.

Police said they stopped Novia and investigated, charging him with a motor vehicle noise violation and with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. Novia is scheduled to appear in court July 13 to answer the charges.

Botsford Collision

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Swamp Road and Route 25 just before 9 am July 3.

Police said motorist Monica Lekuch, 55, of 7 Tanglewood Lane, Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1998 Subaru Forester station wagon, stopped at a stop sign at the end of Swamp Road, and then turned left onto Route 25 before colliding with motorist Carol J. Krauss, 46, of Monroe, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina northbound on Route 25.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident and treated Laura Krauss, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet, police said.

Police issued Lekuch an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.
