Located near the intersection of Route 302 and Jacklin Lane, next to the Dodgingtown Firehouse, Dodgingtown Market & Deli has served as the local convenience store in the Taunton District since 1967, where locals can grab that half-gallon of milk or bottle of laundry detergent on the way home. But since 1994, when Argero and George Hamilakis took ownership, it has increasingly become known for its superior deli offerings and customer service.

Now in their 23rd year of business, the couple continues to take cues from customers (most of whom they know by name), regularly updating offerings in the family-owned store and deli.

It now offers propane tanks for sale and U-Haul truck rentals to assist in moves.

Inside Dodgingtown Market & Deli, customers will find a store layout that means ease of service, easy to locate products, and a "Grab and Go" cooler of prepared main courses, salads, and desserts, conveniently located near the checkout, as well as their own Brutzel Bars - crisp, crackery snacks with a layer of the chocolate, Heath Bar, cookies and cream, or Reese's Peanut Butter spread across the top. Those who are not in a big hurry can find a seat at one of four small tables. Linger over the newspaper, or just people watch - the Hamilakises are happy to have you there.

Specialty sandwiches, homemade salads and entrees, footlong hot dogs, and homemade chili and soup draw customers to the store. Dodgingtown Market & Deli is proud to offer beverage options not found at most other delis: Orangina and Stewart's sodas, among them, Fresh-brewed regular or decaf coffee is found at the coffee bar, plus a flavored gourmet coffee every day. Flavored syrups are on hand to perk up that cup of joe, at no additional cost.

Catering is a big part of what Dodgingtown Market offers. Three-, four-, five-, or six-foot subs are always a big hit, feeding seven to ten people per foot. Pasta entrees, the phyllo, spinach, and feta cheese specialty spanakopita, or Greek spinach pies, sandwich wraps, pulled pork sliders, and Arge's homemade dips are available for parties. George and Arge are happy to work with customers to provide other items. Cookie trays filled with specialty cookies, all baked on premises, can be ordered, as well as Greek dessert specialties.

"Our lives are centered around food. You smell those aromas, and you know you have a good thing going," said Arge.

From a fast snack to a full meal, to a phone charger, pair of sunglasses, or Fido's dog treats, Dodgingtown Market & Deli provides quality food and groceries at competitive prices, with a friendly staff to help.

A Sampling From The Menu

Breakfast: The best-selling bacon, egg, and cheese on a hard roll draws many breakfast customers to Dodgingtown Market. Regulars often opt to customize the breakfast sandwich by substituting sausage, steak, ham, or even turkey for the bacon. Try the Western omelet breakfast sandwich: grilled ham, onions, and peppers scrambled with eggs - add hash browns, if you prefer.

From the Grill: The Cubano is made from their own pulled pork, ham, and cheese on a grilled roll, with mustard. The Philly cheesesteak is a classic combination of steak and cheese, with Dodgingtown's own horseradish sauce, and with or without fried onions and peppers.

Salads: All salads are made in house. Bestsellers include the orzo salad with spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, and Arge's oil and vinegar dressing, or the rotini pasta salad made with salami, pepperoni, Provolone and pepper jack cheeses, roasted red peppers, olives, and Dodgingtown Deli housemade dressing.

Sandwiches: More than 30 hot and cold sandwiches are available on a choice of white, wheat, rye, bagel, hard or Portuguese roll, grinder roll, wrap, or English muffin. Turkey and roast beef are cooked on premises. Four to five lunch specials each day, at discounted price. The Italian combo sandwich of ham, salami, Provolone, and all the fixings, and chicken cutlet sandwich topped with cheddar cheese, coleslaw, and ranch dressing are two of the most popular.

Grab and Go: Hot items feature honey batter deep fried chicken, and the meatball grinder. Cold items to go include a selection of homemade meals such as lasagna, chicken Cordon Bleu, and shepherd's pie.
