Danbury Hospital

Karim Nazer, MD, and Rob Mascia, MD, have been awarded the designation of certified physician executive (CPE). They earned the designation for educational achievements, demonstrated stature as physicians, and experience in the field of medical management. A Newtown resident, Dr Nazer is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and board eligible in occupational medicine; he is medical and operations director of Danbury Health Care Affiliates and executive director/chief medicine specialties for the Danbury Office of Physician Services (DOPS). Dr Mascia is board certified in family medicine and geriatrics and is family practice section chief at Danbury Hospital. In addition, he is the executive director/chief of primary care for DOPS and medical director for Brookfield Family Medicine. He is a delegate to the Connecticut State Medical Society and is chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fairfield County Medical Association.

William V. Begg, III, MD, has been nominated by his professional colleagues at the hospital for the second consecutive year for the prestigious Dr Melville G. Magida Award presented annually by the Fairfield County Medical Association and the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation. The award recognizes a young physician who has shown a notable capacity for patient treatment and care and a special sensitivity to patient-physician relationships. A Newtown resident, he is an emergency room physician at the hospital.

Andrew Keller, MD, has been named the first recipient of the American Society of Echocardiography’s Meritorious Service Award. A cardiologist, he was honored on June 12 at the ASE’s June Scientific Session in Las Vega, Nev., for his unique contributions to the society including serving as a member of the board of directors, as chairman of the society’s web editorial board, and for creating the ASE webpage, www.asecho.org.

Amal B. Tanagho, MD, earned board certification from the American Society of Addiction Medicine. An addiction psychiatrist with the Danbury Office of Physician Services, PC, she has served as medical director of chemical dependency services at Danbury Hospital since 1997. She also is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and serves as a faculty member at New York Medical College and St George’s College.

Joseph Shea has been promoted to administrator director, Behavior Health Service Line at Danbury Hospital. A health care manager and certified school psychologist, he previously was coordinator of adult ambulatory psychiatry.

Dennise Murray Boyle, a health care manager and registered nurse, was appointed program director of Ambulatory Behavior Health Services, where she will manage the operation of the Community Center for Behavioral Health and the Center for Child and Adolescent Treatment Services at 152 West Street Danbury.

Gregory G. Jones was appointed to clinical program manager at the Center for Child and Adolescent Treatment Services, where he has served in the roles of senior social worker, coordinator of social work education, and program manager since 1994. A licensed clinical social worker, he also is affiliated with Psychotherapy Associates of Western Connecticut, Brookfield, and is an adjunct professor at the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Work.

 

Bridgeport Hospital

Tom Doherty, RN, of Newtown was named Bridgeport Hospital’s June 2003 Heart Team Member of the Month for his outstanding service to patients and colleagues. A nurse at the hospital for 22 years, he is responsible for the cardiovascular team’s technical equipment. He is also an instructor in cardiac instrumentation for the Bridgeport Hospital’s School of Nursing’s perioperative nursing and surgical technology programs.

 

St Vincent’s Medical Center

William J. Riordan, president and chief executive officer of St Vincent’s Health Services, received the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s award. The award recognizes ACHE affiliates who significantly contribute toward the advancement of health care management excellence.

Waterbury Hospital

Steven L. Eisen, MD, a neurologist and chairman of neurology at Waterbury Hospital, has begun seeing patients in Southbury at the new Southbury Medical Building at the corner of Route 6 and Old Waterbury Road. His areas of specialty include the evaluation and treatment of stroke, headaches, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, MS, and seizures

Yale-New Haven Hospital

Joseph A. Zaccagnino, president and chief executive officer of the hospital and its parent system Yale New Haven Health, was sworn in as chairman of the National Committee for Quality Health Care (NCQHC) at its 25th anniversary annual meeting in Washington, D.C. He will lead the board of trustees of the nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of health care in the United States.

Jody Platner, director of the Yale-New Haven Hospital Day Care Center, was among the first of the statewide candidates to be awarded the Connecticut Director’s Credential in early child care and education. This is the first year that the credential was given.
