Newtown High School's girls' and boys' cross country teams swept the competition in races against Bunnell of Stratford and host Masuk of Monroe, at Great Hollow Lake, on October 10.

The girls also had a strong showing in the Wickham Park Invitational in Manchester, on October 8, as they played seventh as a team behind Lu Hage's 15th-place finish in 20:31.

In the October 10 meet, the girls beat Masuk 19-44, Weston 19-44, and Bunnell 15-50. Top NHS results are as follows:

In the boys' race, Newtown beat Masuk 25-36, Weston 15-50, and Bunnell 15-48. Top NHS results are as follows:

Up next for both squads is the South-West Conference championship meet, scheduled to be held at Bethel High School's course on Wednesday, October 19. The girls will race at 4 pm, and the boys are scheduled to compete beginning at 4:30 pm.
