Referenced in dozens of television shows and films - perhaps most memorably in a scene from Sleepless in Seattle - the 1957 drama-romance (with some very funny lines thrown in) An Affair To Remember will be the next film offered in the Classic Cinema Series at Edmond Town Hall.

Screening will be offered Thursday, February 18, at 1 and 7 pm.

In this classic drama-romance (with some very funny lines also in the mix), Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant) is on his way back to New York to marry a rich heiress. While onboard a cruise ship he meets Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr), who is also on her way home, to her fiancé. She initially sees him as a playboy, and he sees her as a bit pretentious. After a series of chance meetings and interactions, however, they fall in love.

Before leaving the ship they agree to meet again in six months, giving each of them time to take care of their current engagements. On the day of their planned rendezvous, Terrie is involved in an accident. She is unable to meet Nickie at the top of the Empire State Building, and he is left feeling betrayed.

Misunderstandings, heartbreak and stubbornness lead the two to nearly miss their chance at happiness and a happy ending.

The film, the second of three to pair Kerr and Grant, was voted the #5 greatest romance of all time by American Film Institute. It was AFI's highest voted film where the lovers end up together in the end. Distributed by 20th Century Fox, this film was actually a remake of the 1939 film Love Affair. Both were directed by Leo McCarey.

While it may not have won any of the four Oscars it was nominated for (Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Music-Original Song and Best Music-Scoring), An Affair To Remember has won its way into generations of moviegoers.

The film is unrated. It has a running time of 119 minutes.

Tickets are the regular $2 price, and the box office will be open prior to each showing. The town hall is at 45 Main Street in Newtown.
