Newtown High School's boys' soccer team got into the win column with a 3-0 win over the visiting Bunnell Bulldogs, under the lights at Blue & Gold Stadium, on September 22. Newtown improved to 1-2-2.The Bee.

After a scoreless opening half, and nearly 20 minutes of stalemate play after the intermission, the Nighthawks netted a trio of goals in a span of less than 14 minutes.

Newtown appeared to take the lead but a goal was disallowed because of an offside call on a corner kick.

Elliott Bennett got things started when he weaved through the defense and dribbled around Bunnell's goalkeeper to give Newtown a 1-0 lead with 20:12 to play.

Just a few minutes later, the Hawks struck again. Thomas Shkreli dribbled down the left side and crossed to Shane Gattey, who one-touched the ball into the lower part of the net for a 2-0 lead with 16:52 remaining.

The Nighthawks kept pressing and scored again with 6:32 left. Thomas Skrelja's cross was broken up by the Bulldogs but an attempted Bunnell clear left Brendan O'Hara with a good look from beyond the 18-yard box. O'Hara drilled a shot into the upper portion of the net for a 3-0 cushion.
