Beatrice Myrtle Knecht Thompson

Beatrice Myrtle Knecht Thompson, 88, a Sandy Hook resident for the past 40 years, died peacefully, in Danbury Hospital, November 15. She was the fourth of seven children, born October 7, 1924, in Trumbull, the daughter of Alwin and Katherine Machalowski Knecht.

She was a graduate of Bassick High School, Class of 1942.

Mrs Thompson was a special person who added much joy to her family. Although she held many different titles, the one that seemed most fitting was friend. She spent countless hours with all who loved her, playing cards, doing puzzles, or just talking about the events of the day. She was an avid gardener and her car sported a bumper sticker that read, “I brake for lobsters.”

She always made her home a loving, inviting place, and her memory will be cherished by all. Her son and his wife, Wayne and Annette Thompson of Sandy Hook; daughter-in-law Gail Thompson of Arizona; four granddaughters, Carrie Milks, and her husband Jay, and Jessica Thompson, and her fiancé Tony Martinez, all of Sandy Hook, Stacie Latham, and her husband Bill, of Fla., and Liberty Hernly, and her husband Greg, of Ariz. survive Mrs Thompson. She was fondly referred to as “GG” by her biggest fans. She was very proud and honored to have eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving her is her granddog, who always knew Mrs Thompson was her best chance of getting a snack. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frederick A. Thompson, Sr; her daughter Sandy L. Sabados; her son Frederick A. “Skipper” Thompson, Jr; a granddaughter Stephanie L. Sabados; and five brothers.

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours and a private burial is planned.
