ASSOCIATED_BRIDLE_TRAILS_FALL_PACE_SERIES

 

All paces require approved protective headgear (safety helmets) and suitable riding footwear (boot with heel). There will be four divisions (hunt, pleasure or hacking, junior and western) and all paces will be held rain or shine. Western teams must have at least one western rider and junior teams must have at least one junior rider. All fences will have go-arounds and all paces will award ribbons for first through 10th place. Riders can accumulate points towards series awards.

 

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 – The Middlebury Bridle Land Association will host its Fall Hunter Pace on Sunday, September 24, at Larkin’s Farm on South Street in Middlebury. Ribbons will be awarded in four divisions and all jumps have go-arounds. Cost is $40 for MBLA members ($50 for non-members) and $30 for junior members ($40 for non-members). SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1 – The Lewisboro Horseman’s Association will host its Fall Country Pace on Sunday, October 1, at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Route 121, in Cross River, New York. Time is 8 am to 12 noon, with a buffet luncheon to be served from 11 am to 2 pm. There are no jumps. Cost is $45 for LHA member ($55 for non-member) and $25 for LHA junior member ($30 for non-member). The fee includes entry for towing vehicles, trailers and horses. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15 – The Greenwich Riding & Trails Association will hold its Hunter Pace on Sunday, October 15, at Hughes/Wonham Field in Greenwich. Start time is 8 am and cut-off time is 12 noon. Senior riders will be $60 and junior riders $40 (lunch included). Pre-registration and payment are required. Call Claire Reed at 1-203-637-8684 for further information.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29 – The Newtown Bridle Lands Association will hold its annual Pumpkin Pace on Sunday, October 29, from 8 am to 12 noon, on Mount Nebo Road. Hard hats are required (no exceptions) and horse must be in good physical condition (NBLA officials have the authority to disqualify any animal that is in distress). ADJACENT HUNTS FALL HUNTER PACE SERIES

 

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 – The official centennial hunter pace of the Smithtown Hunt Club, Inc., will be held on Sunday, September 17, from 8:30 am to 1 pm, in Old Westbury, New York. Teams of two or three riders will compete in several different divisions. Proper attire required. All fences have go-arounds. Lunch is included for participants ($15 for non-riders), 11:30 am to 2 pm. Cost of the pace is $25 per junior rider, $35 per affiliated hunt rider, and $60 per unaffiliated hunt rider. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 – The Old Chatham Hunt Club will hold its annual pace on Sunday, September 24, from 10 am to 1 pm, at Highland Farm in Old Chatham, New York. Several different divisions for junior and adult riders will feature trophy points as well as coolers and ribbons. Informal hunting attire and hard hats required (no dogs, please). Cost is $35 for adjacent hunt members ($25 for juniors), $70 for unaffiliated riders ($35 for juniors). Call Patti Salerno at 1-518-766-4340 for registration form.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15 – The Fairfield County Hounds Hunter Pace will be held on Sunday, October 15, at 10 am, on Curtis Road in Bridgewater. A newly-designed course (all fences have go-arounds) will be featured. Cost is $35 for adjacent hunts member and $70 for non-member ($20 for juniors). SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22 – The Rombout Hunt, Inc., Hunter Pace will be held Sunday, October 22, at 10 am, at Gone Away Farm on Browning Road in Hyde Park, New York. All fences (a combination of fences, chicken coops, barways and stone walls) have go-arounds. There will be a separate division for juniors. Hunting attire with hard hats is required. Luncheon is included. Cost is $35 for adjacent hunts members, $70 for non-members, and $20 for juniors. Call Joan Cohen at 1-845-297-6182 for further information.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29 – The Windy Hollow Hunter Pace will be held Sunday, October 29, from 10 am to 1 pm, at Hunts End Farm on Wolfpit Road in Sussex, New Jersey. Cost is $35 for adjacent hunts members, $5 for all others, and $25 for juniors. There will be prizes awarded in junior and adult divisions. Appropriate attire and protective gear required. SPECIAL EVENTS

 

SEPTEMBER 16: Animals for Life, a non-profit organization that rescues and fosters homeless, abandoned and abused animals, will hold its fourth annual Save-A-Pet Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, September 16, at Hollow Park in Woodbury. Registration will begin at 9:30 am. The walk will end at the Hollow with the usual pet adoption. Other events include a blessing of the animals, pet judging, and sweepstakes drawing. SEPTEMBER 16: The Dog Days of Oxford, sponsored by the Oxford Dog Pound Committee, will be held Saturday, September 16, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the Quaker Farms School on Great Oak Road in Oxford. There will be dog contests, agility and training demonstrations, and door prizes. Donation is $3 for adults (free for children under 12). Rain date is September 17. SEPTEMBER 16: The Danbury Animal Welfare Society will hold a low-cost Rabies Clinic on Saturday, September 16, from 1 to 3 pm, in the Danbury Public Works Garage on Newtown Road (across from Danbury Volkswagen). Cost is $10 per vaccination, cash only. Dogs must be on leashes and cats in carriers. To get a three-year vaccination, please bring old rabies certificates as proof of previous vaccination. OCTOBER 8: The Fairfield Bridle Trails Association will hold Hunter Trials on Sunday, October 8, at Bill and Olivia Week’s farm at 889 Hulls Highway in Southport. At the trials, horse and riders compete over cross country jumps – on rolling terrain and on flat terrain. Junior classes begin at 8 am and adult classes at 1 pm. A buffet lunch will be served from 11 am to 2 pm. Raindate is Monday, October 9. Call Sue Eckert at 1-203-255-0148 for further information.

HORSE SHOWS

 

OCTOBER 7: Stepping Stone Farm in Ridgefield will hold its next horse show on Saturday, October 7. The show is recognized by the American Horse Show Association (AHSA), the Connecticut Hunter Jumper Association (CHJA) and the New England Horsemen’s Council (NEHC). There will be leadline, walk-trot, short stirrup equitation, stirrup hunter, schooling hunter, hunter seat equitation, CHJA pony medal class, low/high hunter, CHJA adult medal class, and National PHA medal class divisions. MEETINGS

 

SEPTEMBER_19: Farrier Eric Rook will speak on Tuesday, September 19, at 7:30 pm, at a meeting of the Newtown_Bridle Lands Association. The meeting will be held in the lower meeting room of the Edmond Town Hall on Main Street. Mr Rook will speak after a short business meeting.
