The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present its 46th Annual Juried Spring Show at Cyrenius H. Booth Library this weekend, from Friday, April 22, through Sunday, April 24.

Media accepted into the show will include works in oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, graphics, mixed media, sculpture and collage.

Jurors for selection and awards are nationally known artists Clayton Buchanan, Robert Noreika and Joel Spector.

The annual Larry Newquist Award for Excellence/Best in Show prize for $500 and numerous other prizes will be given for outstanding work at the show reception, which will take place on Saturday from 2 to 4 pm.

SCAN is also proud to announce that Newtown Poet Laureate Lisa Schwartz will be reciting a poem composed especially for the SCAN reception at 3 pm, prior to the awards ceremony. April is National Poetry Month, and Ms Schwartz has been very busy participating in numerous area events, raising the consciousness of Newtown residents on the reading and writing of poetry.

The public is invited to the reception, as well as the exhibition. Light refreshments will be served during the reception.

Readers should note that this year's SCAN Annual Juried Spring Art Show duration has been changed. Traditionally presented as a ten-day event, this year's spring show is being presented for just three days. Show hours are Friday and Sunday, April 22 and 24, 12-5 pm; and Saturday, April 23, 9:30 am-5 pm

The 2016 show chair is John Boccuzzi (203-364-0360), with co-chair Bambi Engelman (203-264-3921).

C.H. Booth Library is at 25 Main Street. The exhibition will be in its lower meeting room.
