To the Editor:

As a member of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department, I'd like to invite the people of Newtown and Sandy Hook to join us for a very special community event on Saturday, October 8. Since the inaugural Passport to Sandy Hook five years ago, this popular event has really grown, and we are looking forward to the 6th Annual Passport to Sandy Hook event being bigger and better!

Passport to Sandy Hook will feature the great shopping and dining that Sandy Hook has to offer. While this day will be great fun for people of all ages, it will also serve as an opportunity to help those in need.

The Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Co. will be bringing two of our trucks to this event. Our "touch-a-truck" will allow you to come on board and see our truck…a great opportunity for kids! Perhaps even more importantly, this truck will also be part of a "stuff-a-truck" campaign to benefit the FAITH Food Pantry. We hope that everyone who comes to join us for a great day of fun at Passport to Sandy Hook will come over with a non-perishable food item to help us stock the shelves at the food pantry. As we head into the colder months ahead, many families are in need of food… this is our chance to help them!

Passport to Sandy Hook will be a great day for the community to come together and support the Sandy Hook shops and dining facilities, but also to support those in our community who are in need. Please help the Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Co. stuff our truck. Bring your non-perishable items to the fire truck behind 102 Church Hill Rd. between 11 am and 4 pm on October 8th.
